First ever LiveJournal User-Representative Election
PLEASE READ BEFORE YOU VOTE!!!

Eligibility
Those eligible to vote in this poll are:
-Users with accounts created before March 11, 2008
-Users who are not using Cyrillic language services (there is a poll for Cyrillic users at lj_election_ru)
-Users who have accounts with validated email addresses

Voting
Users should select their first choice, second choice, and third choice candidates from the drop-down list.

Determining the winner
The poll will be closed at 9:00 p.m. PDT Thursday, May 29, 2008
-If a user has more than 50% of the first-choice vote, that candidate will be declared the winner
-If no user has more than 50% of the first-choice vote, we will begin using an Instant Runoff process. The user with the lowest tally for first-choice vote will be eliminated, and the second choice candidate on those ballots will be substituted as first choice. This process will continue (drop lowest candidate, reassign to next vote, tally again) until any user has more than 50% of the vote.
-If all ballots are exhausted and no candidate has more than 50% of the vote, we will return to the first round and award the election to the candidate with the most 1st choice votes.

Member Term
The new Advisory Board member will be announced by the end of the day on Friday, May 30, 2008 and will begin their one-year term of service on June 1, 2008.

THANK YOU!

objectification is in the eye of the beholder.
The fact that your models asked you to, (and you do it very well) would be a personal matter between you and your models-- and your fans.

It becomes objectifying when the images are presented to the general public sans context.

As in-- I've never heard of you, and I get an eyeful of (gorgeous, don't get me wrong) silicone as my very first introduction to you. Her tits are awesome, but I don't consider them your primary qualification for user rep.

I am not telling you this so you'll change, just explaining the concept of objectification. If you click on the 'photomodel' tag in my lj, you'll see. ;)

Re: objectification is in the eye of the beholder.
All of that is true, but the FF writers, for instance, aren't shoving their pr0n into your face in their campaign icon.

Squeaky is ON OUR SIDE. (I voted for him, for his commitment to free speech and his technical know-how)

I can see that Mr. personality is winning by a landslide-- luckily his qualifications seem to be reasonable, even if his "it's for FUN' reasoning is a titch less thought out thatn I'd like it to be... And his posters are irritating as fuckall.

ONce more ,if there's anything bad about using naked girls in icons is bad, it's only in situations where no one is expecting it (and, a little contempation might say, where a lot of women are likely to come across you for the first time.

Could you balance them out with a couple of shots of men's tight, muscular arses? *grin*

Re: objectification is in the eye of the beholder.
And those who don't wouldn't give me a second glance without something to attract them.

My two cents worth?? The eye candy is what made me NOT want to take a second glance. It makes me wonder...if the person feels they have to rely on boobie pics to get votes then they maybe they don't have much else to offer.

If using their images in this way, with their permission and urging, is bad, then mea culpa.

It's not that the pics are being used because of their suggestion/permission, it's that you would actually agree that it was a good idea to use them that makes me scratch my head!! And I certainly wouldn't want you to lose votes just because of said pics.

And I'm willing to bet that 99.9% of your votes would be from men.

Anyhoo, good luck to you. May the best man - or woman - win, no matter what.

:-)

Re: Not that it seems to matter to you, but...
It doesn't matter, though. When a woman auditions for a role and receives payment to act in a beer commercial, that doesn't make the commercial suddenly free of any claims of objectification, and that doesn't mean it isn't exploiting female sexuality to profit.
