First ever LiveJournal User-Representative Election
PLEASE READ BEFORE YOU VOTE!!!

Eligibility
Those eligible to vote in this poll are:
-Users with accounts created before March 11, 2008
-Users who are not using Cyrillic language services (there is a poll for Cyrillic users at lj_election_ru)
-Users who have accounts with validated email addresses

Voting
Users should select their first choice, second choice, and third choice candidates from the drop-down list.

Determining the winner
The poll will be closed at 9:00 p.m. PDT Thursday, May 29, 2008
-If a user has more than 50% of the first-choice vote, that candidate will be declared the winner
-If no user has more than 50% of the first-choice vote, we will begin using an Instant Runoff process. The user with the lowest tally for first-choice vote will be eliminated, and the second choice candidate on those ballots will be substituted as first choice. This process will continue (drop lowest candidate, reassign to next vote, tally again) until any user has more than 50% of the vote.
-If all ballots are exhausted and no candidate has more than 50% of the vote, we will return to the first round and award the election to the candidate with the most 1st choice votes.

Member Term
The new Advisory Board member will be announced by the end of the day on Friday, May 30, 2008 and will begin their one-year term of service on June 1, 2008.

THANK YOU!

It's a damn shame fandom decided to get behind a candidate who's buddies with the loudest HP BNFs and volunteers for one of fandom's foes, LJ Abuse.

I'm not buying that any of the other fandom candidates were unable to catch and surpass jameth. Fandom keeps on going on about how constructive and coordinated and cohesive they are. If that's the case, why not support rm or vichan or qfemale, or any other of the so-called fandom approved choices as first choice?

*shrugs* I watched it play out, and it wasn't that rm or vichan couldn't catch up, it's just that it wound up that legomymalfoy was the closest to catching up, and people started voting to her because she seemed the most likely. And it was her supporters that started mobilizing really heavily. I really wish supporters of the other fandom candidates had also done that. I would have been happy with any of them.

I wish that had happened to, and I think it did to an extent for rm, but lmm has the most popular and visable supporters and the most recognizable name. I would have went with vichan and qfemale as my top two choices because they have been the most visible and friendly fandom approved candidates. Too bad certain HP BNFs didn't know them well enough to endorse them.

Doesn't matter, I nulled all my votes except for my vote for qfemale. I can't vote for someone who "buries her head in the sand when she's under pressure" and has answered zero questions. Not that I think this election matters in the first place, no matter who's elected.

Well, it turns out the pressure was a death threat. I think that's forgivable, personally.

p.s. jameth doesn't offend me like he does the most vocal fandomers. What's so bad about saying that some fanfic is weird? It is weird.

And does anyone really think he'll behave like the troll you think he is? Use some sense, people.

He's been behaving like that consistently throughout the election, so yeah.

No one would be able to function as an adult if they behaved like a troll all the time. I don't think some people in fandom behave the way they do IRL either.

Well, it turns out the pressure was a death threat. I think that's forgivable, personally.

I saw that earlier, and yes it's forgivable and I hope for her safety. Still there's no way I would ever vote for a member of LJ Abuse.

You put into much better words something I was trying to say. XD That, and your first comment reminds me of my disappointment in "fandom" and so many people not thinking for themselves. :/ And I say this as a fandomwhore.

so lmm will be eerily silent throughout her board position. good to know.
sallysitwellsallysitwell on May 30th, 2008 12:01 am (UTC)
At least she's consistent.

doing something bad consistently does not mean it's a good thing.
sallysitwellsallysitwell on May 30th, 2008 12:03 am (UTC)
Oh, I know. I wasn't complimenting her.

Well, whether you like it or want to believe it, that's clearly what a large proportion of the voters think, too.
