I believe LJ's value to be a website where anyone on the internet can post about their daily lives, meeting new friends no matter how far the distance, where users can share and develop ideas into great communities, and learn how to have respect and to care for each other. I like to think that everyone who's a LJ user has gained more than one new friend here. Whether it be from similar interests in TV shows, musicians, movies, or whatever, we've each discovered at least one new friend from LJ. LJ is a place where a person can connect with many different people while learning new things about themselves.
Many LJ users would say the past couple of months, perhaps even years, have not been kind to them. At one point fandoms of all shapes, sizes, and genres were facing a chopping block. After that some LJ users felt uncomfortable about expressing their love for their respective fandoms. As long as you follow LJ's Terms of Service, I feel you, the average LJ user, should not have to fear that. I believe the first step to solving this dilemma is to improve communications between LJ staff and the LJ users. This same solution should also be used before making sudden announcements involving LJ functions. I feel if LJ staff wants to improve this website, then they should take the time to listen to everyone's feedback. The bickering between LJ staff and LJ users should be stopped, and in its place a bridge should be form to connect both sides so they can work together.
I want to be chosen as your elected representative so I can, in general terms, make LJ user-friendly again. I'm not just referring to adding new content to the website itself. As I said before, I want the LJ users to know they can come here and feel comfortable, like LJ is their second home. Likewise, I want LJ staff to realize they can communicate with the LJ users so they know exactly what to do to make LJ better for everyone.
I would dare say LJ's biggest concern is the growing gap between LJ staff and LJ users. Some LJ users feel their voices aren't being heard while in other cases they didn't even know they had the chance to speak their opinion. As for LJ staff, I believe they aren't doing enough to make LJ better as a whole. Big changes are just dropped into LJ users' laps with apparently no concerns about how they feel. I say we all need to work together, get everything out in the open, and at the very least create a compromise which benefits everyone. Also, personally speaking I have seen an increase in the number of trolls plaguing LJ. It appears LJ users are being harassed more frequently. I feel trolling should be stopped and stricter penalties against them should be put into effect as soon as possible. Then there's the ads. At the very least I feel LJ users would love to have them in a spot where the ads aren't so intrusive to their journals.
As for my qualifications for this position, I've already mentioned how others have commented on what a good listener I am. I have a unique knack to get along with just about anyone. I am friendly, considerate, and respectful of others. As much as I have a right to speak my own opinion, so should you. I'm older than the average LJ user, and with age comes experience on how to handle potential volatile situations.
I appreciate your time in reading my entry. Please vote for me in the upcoming Advisory Board elections. Thank you. :)
